Byron Bitz Hits Kyle Clifford, Gets Ejected From Game 1 Between Canucks, Kings

Byron Bitz might want to take back his hit on Kyle Clifford at the 12:12 mark of the second period on Wednesday night. The Vancouver Canucks winger went into the corner with the Los Angeles Kings forward, both going after the puck. Instead of the puck, however, Bitz caught Clifford's head and Clifford's head caught the glass.

Clifford left the game, and he's yet to return as of the second intermission. Bitz, meanwhile, was given a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct. It's likely he could see a phone call from Brendan Shanahan and the NHL's department of player safety, too.

It's the third questionable hit on the first night of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs. In Nashville, Predators forward Gabriel Bourque hit Ian White of the Red Wings from behind, and at the final buzzer of that game, Shea Weber grabbed Henrik Zetterberg's head and slammed it into the glass. Literally. The playoffs bring out the emotion -- both good and bad, it seems.
