Predators Vs. Red Wings, NHL Playoffs 2012 Game 2: Detroit Evens Series With 3-2 Victory

The Detroit Red Wings entered their game against the Nashville Predators on Friday night hoping to pick up a win to even their best-of-seven playoff series at one game apiece. Detroit ended up realizing their goal as they took an early lead and managed to hold on for the win. The first-round NHL Stanley Cup playoff series is now tied 1-1 following a 3-1 Red Wings victory.

Detroit scored twice in the first period, on goals by Ian White and Cory Emmerton. The Predators finally found the net at 9:01 in the second period to halve the Detroit lead, but just 56 seconds later, Johan Franzen scored to push the Red Wings lead to 3-1.

The Predators made a move in the final five minutes of the final regulation period. Shea Weber scored an unassisted goal at 15:16 to cut the Red Wings' lead to just 3-2. The Predators were unable to score again, however, as their last-minute empty net gambit went unrewarded and Detroit clung to their lead to take the game and even the series.

Jimmy Howard saved 24 of 26 shots in the victory and the Red Wings scored three goals on just 17 shots.

Predators Vs. Red Wings, NHL Playoffs 2012 Game 2: Detroit Holds 3-1 Lead After 2nd Period

The Nashville Predators are hosting the Detroit Red Wings in the second game of their opening-round 2012 NHL Stanley Cup playoff series on Friday night. The Red Wings are attempting to even up the best-of-seven series at one win apiece. Heading into the final period of regulation, Detroit holds a 3-1 lead.

The Predators entered the second period trailing by a score of 2-0, but were finally able to get on the board after about 30 minutes of play. Andrei Kostitsyn found the net at 9:01 to cut the Detroit lead in half, but the Red Wings answered back less than a minute later. Johan Franzen scored on a shot that glanced off the leg of Nashville goalkeeper Pekka Rinne at 9:57 to push the Red Wings lead back to 3-1.

The Predators are taking as many shots on goal as are the Red Wings, but Detroit's Jimmy Howard is being stingy in front of the net. He may end up being the key to a Detroit victory.

Predators Vs. Red Wings, NHL Playoffs 2012 Game 2: Detroit Takes Early 2-0 Lead

The Nashville Predators are hosting the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night in Tennessee. In the second game of their first-round best-of-seven series in the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, the Predators hold a 1-0 lead. After one period of play, the Red Wings lead 2-0.

The Red Wings skated with confidence and patience early on and opened up the scoring on just their second shot on goal. Ian White took a shot at 8:25, aided by a moving screen in front of the net. Nashville Pekka Rinne never saw the puck and it flew in for a 1-0 Detroit lead.

At 15:33, the Red Wings added a second goal off a turnover and breakaway, as Cory Emmerton beat two defenders and flipped one in, top-shelf, past the glove hand of Rinne.

It really was a tremendous goal in every aspect, and it gave the Red Wings an important cushion heading into the first intermission.
