Blues Vs. Sharks, NHL Playoffs 2012 Game 2: Blues Lead 2-0 After Second Period

Stay connected with SB Nation

The St. Louis Blues are attempting to stay out of an 0-2 hole in their Western Conference Quarterfinals series against the San Jose Sharks. A 2-0 lead after two periods of Game 2 is a good start.

David Backes put home a goal on a brilliant assist by T.J. Oshie in the late stages of the period, and the Blues dominated throughout en route to what looks like a fairly safe 2-0 lead. St. Louis had 17 shots to San Jose's eight in the second, and Brian Elliott, brought in in relief of Jaroslav Halak little more than a minute into the period, faced only six of those Sharks shots.

Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi, on the other hand, has faced 26 shots in Game 2.
