The Detroit Red Wings will be down a defenseman on Wednesday when they face the St. Louis Blues. Kyle Quincey has been suspended for one game for an elbow to the face of Florida Panthers forward Tomas Kopecky. Quincey was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct when the incident occurred, and it's safe to assume that the only reason he got off so lightly is because he has never been fined or suspended before.
Defenseman Ian White was a scratch for the Wings against the Panthers and is likely to suit up in Quincey's absence on Wednesday. Though Mike Babcock won't like that he's down any man, Quincey's suspension probably isn't going to hurt Detroit too much. He was on pace to play the least minutes out of Detroit's defensemen before he was assessed the penalty, and he's not having a great season. He's currently a -1, while White is a +22. Nicklas Kronwall, also a -1, is the only other Wings defenseman with a negative plus-minus rating.
