Blues Vs. Sharks, NHL Playoffs 2012 Game 5: Scoreless After First In St. Louis

Stay connected with SB Nation

The St. Louis Blues can eliminate the San Jose Sharks from the 2012 NHL playoffs with a win in Game 5 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series. But after one period of Game 5, it's not clear that they will, given the 0-0 deadlock in St. Louis.

St. Louis dominated play in the period, outshooting San Jose 7-3 and staying out of the penalty box. Martin Havlat, one of San Jose's stars in this series so far, served two minutes for hooking midway through the period.

Brian Elliott made all three saves for the Blues, while Antti Niemi had seven saves for the Sharks. Blues defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo is enjoying an odd status in the game: He's the only player who took more than one shot in the first period.
