Capitals Vs. Rangers: Brad Richards Goal Gives NY 1-0 Lead

Stay connected with SB Nation

Well, that didn't take long. Just 1:32 into the first period of Game 7, Brad Richards has the Rangers up 1-0 over the Capitals. The top line of Richards, Carl Hagelin and Marian Gaborik was double-shifted by John Tortorella and Hagelin found Richards near the faceoff dot.

Washington had the matchup they wanted, with John Carlson and Karl Alzner on defense against New York's top unit, but it didn't pay off for them this time. Hagelin was able to beat the Caps defense to a puck along the end boards, and while Gaborik positioned himself with a screen in front of the net Richards was able to tee up on a big shot off Hagelin's assist.
