We’re less than 10 minutes into Game 7 and it’s already apparent that Marian Gaborik, Carl Hagelin and Brad Richards are going to be a force for the New York Rangers in this one. They have a goal, obviously, but on each of their five shifts early in the game they’ve created chances and kept Washington pinned in their own end. They’ve combined for four shot attempts in those five shifts.
It doesn’t take an expert to realize that’s something the Caps have to corral. They can’t let those three run all over them in their own end, and it all starts with winning a few board battles.
