Two shots on goal in the third period for the Washington Capitals. With their season on the line, that’s all they could muster. One of them went in the net.
That’s just unacceptable if you’re in the final 20 minutes of your season, but full marks have to go to the Rangers for that. They put in an unbelievable defensive effort, and Henrik Lundqvist played what may have been his best game of the playoffs.
Aside from a lengthy surge in the second period, Washington never really could generate much pressure. The Rangers kept them to the perimeter, blocked a ton of shots and when they did allow things to get through, Lundqvist was huge.
Frustrating end for Washington, but it’s tough not to just pat New York on the back after this one.
