The Columbus Blue Jackets have named interim head coach Todd Richards as the team's new head coach.

The Columbus Blue Jackets finished up the NHL season well below .500 and fired their head coach midseason, naming Todd Richards the "interim" head coach on January 9. Richards finished out the season with the Jackets and will now have the interim title removed from his name, according to a report by The Columbus Dispatch.

Richards, who took over when Scott Arniel was fired on Jan. 9, will have the "interim" tag lifted from his title later today, The Dispatch has learned. He has signed a two-year contract, the financial terms of which were not immediately available.

Richards will become the Blue Jackets sixth coach in franchise history in just 11 years of existence in the league. The Blue Jackets went 18-21-2 under Richards, including an 11-8-0 record after March 1 and wins in five of their last six games.
