Tomas Vokoun won't be a Capital next season, but he could play for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the KHL.
Tomas Vokoun will not be a member of the Washington Capitals next season. That much we already know, as he told the media assembled at Kettler Capitals Iceplex the news on Monday afternoon. Vokoun said he never expected to stay in Washington longer than the one season he agreed to last summer, and he called that single injury-plagued season the most "disappointing" of his career.
But where will the 35-year-old native of the Czech Republic end up next year? If one European report is to be believed, Vokoun will join Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL. Via Russian Machine Never Breaks, which translated the report from the Czech-language website iSport.cz:
Behind the hockey scenes, there are talks that he [Vokoun] will be a goaltender for the Yaroslavl [Lokomotiv] in Russia! Sport talked to a few scouts and players in Russia, and all of them confirmed: "We heard about it". Some even added: "That's a sure thing."
Lokomotiv Yaroslavl didn't ice a team during the 2011-12 KHL season after a tragic plane crash killed the entire club and its coaching staff. They'll return to the ice for 2012-13.
As for the Capitals, no surprises here: They'll likely go with Braden Holtby and Michal Neuvirth as their goaltenders next season.
