The Colorado Avalanche signed long-time right winger Milan Hejduk to a one-year contract. Hejduk will play his 14th season in the NHL in 2012-2013, with the previous 13 all with the Avalanche. In 2011, he became the third captain since the franchise moved to Denver, joining Joe Sakic and Adam Foote as the only other Avanlanche players to wear the "C" on their sweater. Nine games into the 2012 season, Hejduk will become the first player in Avalanche history to reach 1,000 games with the club. Colorado GM Greg Sherman discussed the importance of keeping Hejduk in the fold:
"Over the years, Milan has been an instrumental part of our organization's success," said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. "He has represented this franchise with class and will continue to complement the young nucleus of players we have been building this team around."
According to Adrian Dater of the Denver Post, the one-year deal is worth $2 million.
