James McBain will be back with the Hurricanes, as the team announced a two-year contract extension.

The Carolina Hurricanes have announced a two-year contract extension with defenseman Jamie McBain on Monday. The deal will pay McBain $1.7 million in 2012-13 and $1.9 million in 2013-14.

The 24 year old defenseman just finished up his third full season in the NHL and led all Carolina defensemen with 19 assists and 27 points. In 2011, McBain also scored five power play goals and was second among Carolina defensemen with 11 power play points.

"Jamie is still a very young player who has established himself as an NHL defenseman," said Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Hurricanes, in a team release. "He moves the puck well and has shown that he can contribute offensively, especially on the power play."

McBain played his collegiate hockey at the University of Wisconsin and was drafted in the second round, 63rd overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
