Wisconsin's Justin Schultz is headed to the NHL, and the Anaheim Ducks have first crack at him.
Wisconsin stud Justin Schultz is likely on his way to the NHL, having filed paperwork to leave NCAA hockey, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie. This means the Anaheim Ducks are on the clock -- this time with Schultz.
The Ducks took Schultz with a second round pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, meaning that they maintain exclusive rights to negotiate with him for 30 days. After July 1, Schultz will be free to sign with any team in the league.
Schultz developed into a hardy defenseman for the Badgers, and would provide a lot of youth on the blue line for Anaheim as a 22-year-old. But he's also got some significant scoring punch: Schultz put up 47 points in 41 games for Wisconsin in 2010-11, scoring 18 goals. He was slightly more effective in 2011-12, with 44 points in 37 games.
