On Friday afternoon in the run-up to Game 6, our Devils blog In Lou We Trust discussed the play of New Jersey's fourth line in this Eastern Conference Final series. They wondered if the bottom trio could contribute in this huge game, one which can give the Devils a berth in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in nine years.
It didn't take long for them to answer the bell. Ryan Carter's fourth goal of the postseason just 10:05 into the game gave New Jersey a 1-0 lead, the ninth goal for the unit overall in these playoffs.
That kind of production from the fourth line can't really be overvalued at this time of year. Carter scored the game-winning goal in Game 5, and now he's opened the scoring in Game 6.
