The Rangers are supposed to be the desperate ones tonight. Backs against the wall and everything.
But according to Matt Reitz on Twitter, scoring chances were 11 to three in favor of the Devils as the first period wound down. We counted two for the Devils after that and zero for the Rangers, giving us a rough estimate of about 13 to three in the first period. That’s not a stat that illustrates desperate play for the Blueshirts.
The shot totals (on goal, missed shots and attempts blocked) tell a different story: 23 to 11 in favor of New York, but the eye test also shows you utter dominance by the Devils so far in Game 6.
It’s not looking good for the No. 1 seeded Rangers right now, but that’s why we play 60 minutes. It didn’t look good for them after 20 minutes on Wednesday night either, did it? Yeah, New York lost that game, but if we learned anything in Game 5, it’s that this game isn’t over just yet.
