More great numbers for the NHL on the ratings front.

According to Puck The Media, NBC Sports Network's broadcast of Capitals vs. Rangers Game 3, a triple overtime epic that stretched beyond midnight Wednesday evening, pulled in a 3.99 in the New York market, up 93 percent from an equivalent game the last time the Rangers reached the Conference Semifinals.

In the Washington D.C. market, the 6.8 rating was up 6 percent as compared to last year's semifinal round against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

All in all, 1.85 million people tuned into Game 3 on NBC Sports Network in the United States. It's the second-highest rated game on cable in the U.S. since the lockout, second only to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals between Boston and Tampa Bay in 2011.

For what might be the first time since the lockout as well, an NHL game beat an NBA game head-to-head in the ratings. The 1.85 millon Caps/Rangers viewers topped the 1.81 million viewers who tuned into the Jazz vs. Spurs playoffs matchup on TNT.

In total, viewership for the Conference Semifinals is up about 50 percent from last year.
