Danny Briere scored 11:04 into the third period in Game 3, tying the contest between his Philadelphia Flyers and the New Jersey Devils at 2-2. We're heading to overtime on Thursday night at Prudential Center as a result.
Martin Brodeur misplayed a James van Riemsdyk shot on goal, and the rebound fell right onto Briere's stick. The puck bounced a bit, but Briere was able to bat it over his pad and into the back of the net. It was his eighth goal of the postseason and his third of the series.
The Flyers seem to have found the ability to control the flow of the game heading into overtime. They've struggled with that even at points in the third period, like when Zach Parise tacked on a third Devils goal to give New Jersey the lead. But after Briere's goal, the Flyers controlled things and pinned the Devils in their own end for perhaps the longest stretch of the series.
Overtime ahead.
