Winter Classic Alumni Game 2013 Initial Rosters Announced

The initial rosters for the 2013 Winter Classic Alumni Game have been released, featuring former greats from the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The game will be split into two doubleheaders on Dec. 31.

The initial rosters for the 2013 Winter Classic Alumni Game have been announced. Highlighting the Detroit Red Wings squad for the game will be the likes of defenseman Chris Chelios, longtime goaltender Chris Osgood, and Russian center Igor Larionov. For the Toronto Maple Leafs, centers Doug Gilmour and Darryl Sittler, and goalie Curtis Joseph should be familiar names.

Each team also features three legends who will roam the bench as coaches and ambassadors. Ron Ellis, Jim McKenny and Johnny Bower will represent the Leafs, and Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay and Alex Delvecchio will represent the Wings.

Expect more names to emerge. The Alumni "Game" will actually be a doubleheader on Dec. 31 at Comerica Park in Detroit. Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said that he expects around 25 players for each team, meaning as many as 100 former greats between the two storied franchises could make an appearance.
