Shane Doan Offered Mega Contract From Unknown Eastern Team, Says Report

An unidentified Eastern Conference team has offered unrestricted NHL free agent Shane Doan a massive four-year, $30 million contract according to a report from 620 KTAR radio in Phoenix. The deal would carry a cap hit of $7.5 million per season and would extend until 2016 when Doan is age 39.

The free agent still hopes to sign with the Phoenix Coyotes, the organization for which he's played his entire career. He's waiting for more clarity in their ownership situation before making an ultimate decision, but it's unlikely that the cash-strapped, still NHL-owned franchise could match this lucrative reported offer.

It seems likely that the hefty offer could be coming from a team desperate to reach the salary cap floor, but it's also possible that one of the bigger market clubs in the East -- all of which missed out on Zach Parise earlier in the offseason -- could throw a big contract at Doan in hopes of cutting those prior losses.
