Shane Doan 'Likely' To Visit Penguins After Seeing Rangers, Flyers

Shane Doan was in New York City last week with the NHL Players' Association, sitting in a room with executives and lawyers from the NHL as the two sides negotiate over the expiring collective bargaining agreement.

While in town, Doan did a little sightseeing, visiting with the New York Rangers late in the week. He made the trek down the New Jersey Turnpike Saturday and did the same with the Philadelphia Flyers, and now the unrestricted free agent has Pittsburgh on his list. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Doan will likely meet with the Penguins "shortly."

Although [agent Terry] Bross said it wasn't "for certain" that Doan will visit with the Penguins, he gave a far more encouraging tone than last week regarding his client's odds of playing with the Penguins.

"Shane is going to visit a couple of more teams," Bross told the Tribune-Review on Sunday. "I'm pretty sure Pittsburgh will be one of them. He is interested in the Penguins."

Penguins general manager Ray Shero has made Doan an offer. It was reported two weeks ago that an unknown Eastern Conference team had offered Doan a massive four-year, $30 million contract, although it's unclear if that team was either the Penguins, Flyers or Rangers. It's believed that Doan would prefer to remain in Phoenix with the Coyotes, but ownership uncertainty there is delaying his final decision.
