Max Pacioretty and the Montreal Canadiens have agreed on a 6-year, $27 million extension.

The Montreal Canadiens and winger Max Pacioretty have agreed to a 6-year, $27 million extension, according to TSN. That works out to $4.5 million a season. The deal, which will start next year, makes Pacioretty a Canadien through the 2018-19 season.

The deal comes after a breakout season for Pacioretty, who led his team in points, with a career-high 65. He also posted career highs in goals (33), assists (32), and games played (79).

Pacioretty received the Bill Masterton trophy for the 2011-12 season, which is awarded for perseverance, determination, and dedication to the game. His 2010-11 season was cut short by injury after a brutal hit from Boston's Zdeno Chara caused Pacioretty to miss the final 15 games of the season and the playoffs. Pacioretty suffered a fractured neck and a concussion on the play.

Pacioretty, who turns 24 this season, was selected 22nd overall in 2007 by the Canadiens.
