The 2012-13 American Hockey League schedule was released on Friday. The regular season gets underway on Oct. 12 with seven games, and that's where the Norfolk Admirals' defense of their Calder Cup championship begins.

Among the highlights on the slate: a pair of outdoor games. The first of those will take place at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Two outdoor games are on the 2012-13 AHL schedule: On Dec. 30, the Grand Rapids Griffins will take on the Toronto Marlies at Comerica Park in Detroit, part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival leading up to the 2013 NHL Winter Classic. And on Jan. 20, the Hershey Bears, as part of the celebration of the franchise’s 75th AHL season, will host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Hersheypark Stadium.
