NHL TV Schedule: NHL Network Remains A Hodgepodge

NHL Network remains a haven for hockey addicts to get their sweet, sweet methodone of NHL action during the regular season. Unlike doubleheader-averse NBC, NHL Network will air 14 twin bills, as well as three tripleheaders, during the 2012-13 season as part of a 78-game schedule.

The simulcasts of CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada" continue to diminish, though NHL Network promises it will air "Coach's Corner" and "The Hotstove" during Saturday night studio programming.

The Pittsburgh Penguins lead the way with 16 NHL Network appearances scheduled for the '12-'13 season. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins each have 14, followed by the New York Rangers with 13. On the other end of the spectrum, three teams -- the Winnipeg Jets, Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Islanders -- will make zero appearances on the National Hockey League's own cable channel. The world champion Los Angeles Kings will appear eight times.

NHL TV Schedule: CBC, TSN, TSN2 Will Still Probably Annoy Anyone Who Isn't A Leafs Fan

The NHL's television partners in Canada continue to cater to the Torontos and Montreals of the world, which will likely upset fans of the other five Canadian teams.

The Canadiens and Maple Leafs will appear on Canada's national networks (English-language, at least) a whopping 44 times, more than any other team this season. The Habs will get 29 telecasts on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, while the Leafs will lead the league with 19 showings over at The NHL on TSN.

CBC will once again televise Hockey Day in Canada, opening night, the Winter Classic and the NHL All-Star Game and skills competition. TSN gets exclusivity on Wednesday nights, and picks up much of the NBC Sports Network's package from the United States to air on TSN2. TSN will air six games featuring the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, while CBC only gets one.

CBC will also air regional games at 10 p.m. ET for the first time on Nov. 17. The network had previously only aired games regionally at 7 p.m. and nationally at 10 p.m.

NHL TV Schedule: NBC, NBC Sports Network Combine For More Than 100 Games

NBC and NBC Sports Network will continue to lead the way for NHL coverage in the United States. The two networks will combine to show more than 100 games, including opening night, the All-Star Game, Hockey Day in America and the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins lead the way, making 17 appearances on NBCSN. The Bruins, St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals will have 12 exclusive appearances on the network. As was the case last year, NBC Sports Network will continue to air a number of games that will be broadcast by regional sports networks in the markets of the two teams playing.

This year, once again, NBC begins its coverage on Black Friday, as the Rangers visit the Bruins. Coincidentally enough, that follows a Thanksgiving night game between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots that NBC will be televising. NBC will televise much of the same teams that they throw at America every year, but it is notable that the Los Angeles Kings are guaranteed at least one NBC game (at Washington on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3) and could be flexed in to one more (at Pittsburgh on Feb. 10). Also worth mentioning: the St. Louis Blues have been thrown into the NBC rotation, with four potential flex appearances.

NBC and NBC Sports Network will also continue the practice of airing the games that are not flexed by NBC on NBCSN. NBC Sports Network will air games on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays through the new year, when the network returns it's highly-rated Sunday night package.
