Portland Winterhawks defenseman Seth Jones has been ranked as the No. 1 prospect entering the 2013 NHL Draft by the league's Central Scouting in their midterm report released on Tuesday morning.
Jones is a product of the United States National Development Program and would become the first defenseman to be selected with the No. 1 overall pick since fellow USNDP alumnus Erik Johnson was selected first overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2006.
Center Nathan MacKinnon was ranked second behind Jones in Central Scoutings' list of the top North American skaters. He is currently playing with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. His teammate, forward Jonathan Drouin is ranked third, followed by forward Sean Monahan and forward Hunter Shinkaruk.
Zachary Fucale (who also plays for Halifax) was ranked as the No. 1 goaltender in North America. He is followed by Eric Comrie, Tristan Jarry, Calvin Petersen and Spencer Martin.
Forward Aleksander Barkov was ranked as the No. 1 international skater, followed by forward Elias Lindholm and defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen.
Juuse Saros was ranked as the No.1 international goaltender available.
