The Montreal Canadiens and restricted free agent P.K. Subban have made no progress towards a new contract.
The Montreal Canadiens and restricted free agent defenseman P.K. Subban have not made any progress on a new contract over the course of the weekend.
With the two sides beginning discussions on a new deal almost immediately following the end of the NHL lockout, the Canadiens and Subban's representation have failed to find common ground on the amount of money the 23-year-old defenseman should be making.
On Monday morning, The Fourth Period magazine reached out to one of Subban's agent who informed the outlet that no future negotiations are currently scheduled.
It has been reported that Subban is interested in signing a five-year deal, which the Canadiens are believed to be comfortable with. However, the difference of opinion is apparently rooted in Subban's desire for an annual salary in the range of $5 to $6 million.
Subban earned $875,000 last season, which was the final year of his three-year, $2,625,000 entry-level contract.
During the Canadiens game on Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, fans began to chant, "We Want P.K." during the third period.
