Penguins vs. Maple Leafs preview: Pittsburgh goes for 3 straight in home opener

USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins have started off the season with two big road wins and now welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs for their home opener.

The Pittsburgh Penguins opened the 2013 season on the road, traveling to Philadelphia and New York for two big road wins and grabbing the momentum in the Atlantic Division.

Ousted from the postseason in 2012 in the first round by the Flyers, the Penguins have started the year on a mission and appear to be already playing at a high level -- dangerous news for teams still working to find chemistry without a preseason.

Led by Evgeni Malkin and James Neal, the Penguins are already rolling on the power play and recently put up six goals against the New York Rangers, chasing goalie Henrik Lundqvist in the second period. Marc-Andre Fleury is expected to start in goal on Wednesday.

The Maple Leafs, meanwhile, hope to rebound from a tough loss in the home-opener on Monday to the Buffalo Sabres. The Leafs have scored just three goals total this season in their two games, with all three goals coming with the man advantage. After Ben Scrivens opened the season in net in both games, James Reimer will get his first start of the season on Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

The puck drops at 7 p.m. ET with local coverage on ROOT Sports.
