The St. Louis Blues made a few roster moves on Wednesday afternoon, including the activation of defenseman Wade Redden.

The St. Louis Blues have activated defenseman Wade Redden, according to an announcement on the team's website by president and general manager Doug Armstrong on Wednesday afternoon.

St. Louis signed Redden last week as an unrestricted free agent after he was extended an accelerated compliance buyout by the New York Rangers. Redden had been placed in the American Hockey League by the Rangers in order to keep his $6.5 million annual average salary off the team's salary cap.

It is believed that he will play in the Blues' game on Thursday night against the Nashville Predators. If this is the case, it will be his first game in the NHL since the 2009-10 season.

In addition, Armstrong also announced that the club has assigned defenseman Ian Cole to the team's AHL affiliate in Peoria. It is believed that Cole was sent to the Rivermen in order open a spot for Redden.

The club also placed Jeff Woywitka on waivers on Wednesday. If he clears, he will be assigned to Peoria. Regardless of the outcome, Cole is expected to return to the Blues after Woywitka's status is determined.
