Rangers vs. Flyers preview: Philadelphia still searching for 1st win

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Flyers (0-3-0) will look to register their first win of the season when they host the New York Rangers (1-2-0) at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night.

This will mark Philadelphia's fourth game in six nights, with three of those contests coming against Atlantic Division opponents.

Starting off the season at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Flyers then traveled to Buffalo to take on the Sabres on Sunday, before heading to New Jersey to challenge the reigning Eastern Conference champion Devils in their home-opener on Tuesday.

When the Flyers face off with the reigning Atlantic Division champions Thursday night, they will have to do so without two players from their top line. Scott Hartnell is out indefinitely due to a foot injury he sustained Tuesday night against New Jersey and Brayden Schenn has been suspended one game for a hit on Anton Volchenkov.

As of Thursday morning, it is believed Tom Sestito and Jody Shelley will be inserted into the lineup.

New York will be entering the contest off an overtime win against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday night. The game will also be the fourth in six days for the Rangers, as they have faced Boston twice, in addition to hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has admittedly struggled this season and will be entering the game with an .877 save percentage with a 4.03 goals against average. Forward Marian Gaborik had also been struggling to some extent, but had a breakout effort on Wednesday, registering a hat trick and scoring the game-winning goal in overtime.

Thursday's game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., ET and will be broadcast in the United States on NHL Network, CSN Philly and MSG.
