The Philadelphia Flyers injury problems only got worse on Thursday night when defenseman Andrej Meszaros appeared to hurt his shoulder at the end of the second period.
The Philadelphia Flyers have recalled defenseman Andreas Lilja from the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to multiple reports on Friday morning.
The move was made in correlation to an assumed injury to defenseman Andrej Meszaros in the team's 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Thursday night. While there is not much information about the injury at this time, it is believed that it was sustained at the end of the second period when Rangers captain Ryan Callahan administered a hit on Meszaros.
At the end of the period, the defenseman returned to the bench hobbled over and quickly made his way down the tunnel toward the team's dressing room. He did not return to the game.
After the game, Meszaros did not address the media, but was seen with his left arm in a sling.
Lilja had been assigned to the Phantoms prior to the start of the regular season and expressed in some capacity that he was not pleased with playing in the AHL. While the circumstances might not be ideal, it appears he will no longer have to.
