Canadiens vs. Senators preview: Montreal looks to extend 4-game streak

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

The Montreal Canadiens (4-1-0) will look to extend a four-game winning streak when they challenge the Ottawa Senators (4-1-1) at Scotiabank Place on Wednesday night.

This will mark the first of four meetings between the Northeast Division rivals. They will also meet later this week when they reconvene in Montreal on Sunday afternoon.

After opening the season with a defeat at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Canadiens have managed to compile a consistent amount of offense over their last four games. Being held to one goal in the opener, the team has registered four goals in each of their subsequent games.

Entering Wednesday night, the Canadiens have scored the seventh most goals amongst Eastern Conference teams (17) and are tied for the second fewest goals allowed of any other team in the league (10).

However, starting goaltender Carey Price (4-1-0; .924 save percentage, 1.98 GAA) will have the night off and backup Peter Budaj will be making his first start of the season.

Budaj will be put to test against the Senators as the team is currently tied for third in the Eastern Conference in goals for this season, as well as tied for seventh in the entire league (19). In addition, the club is in the top-five in fewest goals allowed this season (tied for fourth with 12 against).

The Senators also have a top-10 power play unit that is converting at a 26.3 percent rate (ninth best), as well as a top-five penalty kill (tied for fifth with an 88 percent success rate).

Craig Anderson (4-0-1; .967 save percentage, 0.98 GAA) has already been confirmed as Ottawa's starter.

Wednesday night's game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., ET and will be broadcast on RDS and TSN.
