According to Czech Republic TV announcer Roman Jedlicka, Hamrlik will officially retire at a press conference in Montreal next week. Montreal was just one of seven stops in Hamrlik's 20-year NHL journey.
Hamrlik was drafted first overall in 1992, the first-ever draft pick for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Hamrlik was an offensive threat from the blueline, amassing at least 20 points in all but two seasons in his career. He spent his last two seasons as a reserve defenseman for both the Capitals and Rangers, and hasn't played a game yet this season. He'll complete his career with 155 goals and 638 points in 1,395 NHL games.
