Five NHL questions: Battle of Cole Harbour hype continues

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

A daily feature that asks the five biggest questions about today's NHL action. Will they be answered? (That doesn't count as one of the five questions.)

1. Will the Battle of Cole Harbour live up to the hype?

Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon are both products of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia and developed a relationship this summer while training together. Crosby's team, the Penguins, will play MacKinnon's team, the Avalanche, on Monday night. Much has been made about the meeting beyond Crosby and MacKinnon, as both teams claim identical 7-1-0 records entering competition.

2. Will Crosby continue his eight-game point streak?

Well, Crosby is on fire. The Penguins captain has registered at least one point in every game this season and has averaged three points over his last four games. He enters Monday night's game with a league leading 17 points and also leads the league in goals (seven) and assists (10).

3. Will the Penguins remain unbeaten at home?

Pittsburgh has dominated at Consol Energy Center this season, registering a 5-0-0 record on home ice. On Monday, the club attempts to continue that trend against Colorado.

4. Will San Jose continue their eight-game point streak?

The Sharks enter competition on Monday night with the most points in the NHL. They will look to keep it that way when they challenge the Detroit Red Wings. However, the team will be without the help of forward Brent Burns as he will miss the contest do to a mouth injury. He will be replaced by 21-year-old rookie Freddie Hamilton.

5. Will Calgary end their two-game losing streak?

The Flames opened the year with a surprising 3-0-2 start but have lost their last two contests. They'll look to end their two-game slid against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night. Was the team's fast start merely a fluke or can they get back on track?
