Speculation rose about Rinne, as a Fox 6 television feature captured Milwaukee Admirals goaltender Magnus Hellberg being recalled by the Predators. Head coach Dean Evason explains to Hellberg that the situation is unclear other than the team requesting his presence at the NHL level. The Predators eventually confirmed the recall.
Rinne's agent, Jay Grossman, tweeted on Thursday that Rinne was scheduled to visit with doctors to treat an unspecified issue:
#Preds G Pekka Rinne to see Drs. this AM, more clarity on his situation later today— Jay Grossman (@Jay_Grossman) October 24, 2013
Rinne underwent arthroscopic hip surgery in May, which was projected to keep him out four months. However, he missed the entirety of the exhibition schedule and didn't play in a game until opening night.
Update: Manager David Poile has confirmed that Rinne has experienced a spontaneous bacterial infection in the surgically repaired hip.
