His first-period goal against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night was already his fifth of the year, and it was the type of good bounce that you need in the NHL. Richards fired a bad angle shot from the corner that just so happened to bounce off of Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn and find the back of the net behind Steve Mason.
Sometimes any shot is a good shot.
While that's a good break for Richards and the Rangers, that's also the type of season that it's been in the early going for the Flyers.
Richards scored just 11 goals for the Rangers last season in what was one of the worst goal-scoring seasons of his career. In just eight games this season he's almost halfway to matching that total.
