5 NHL questions: Ruff returns to Buffalo, Moulson makes debut

Rick Stewart

A daily feature that asks the five biggest questions about today's NHL action. Will they be answered? (That doesn't count as one of the five questions.)

1. How's Lindy Ruff's return to Buffalo going to go?

Emotional couple of hours for Sabres fans. First, Thomas Vanek gets traded to the New York Islanders for Matt Moulson and picks, then their longtime former coach returns to town. The Sabres were criticized for not acknowledging the return of captain Jason Pominville earlier this season. Will they do anything special for Ruff?

2. What about Moulson?

Hot off the presses, Matt Moulson is expected to make his debut with the Sabres tonight. Moulson has spent several years on the left side of one of the game's brightest stars in John Tavares. How will he fare without his partner in crime?

3. Will a return home help the Rangers?

New York has spent all season on the road. That changes on Monday night as they re-open the newly renovated Madison Square Garden against the Montreal Canadiens. In addition to some restyled digs, the Rangers will also have Henrik Lundqvist back in the fold.

4. Can the Wild complete a home-and-home sweep of the Chicago Blackhawks?

The Wild managed a 5-3 victory against the defending champs in Chicago on Saturday night. Minnesota enters the night on a three-game winning streak, while Chicago has gone two straight without a win.

5. Can the Penguins end their slide?

Pittsburgh still sits atop the Metropolitan Division, but their lead is dwindling because of a three-game losing streak. The Carolina Hurricanes are three points back of the Penguins but can close the gap with a win on Monday. However, they're on a two-game losing streak of their own.
