Coach fight: Patrick Roy fined $10,000 for incident

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Patrick Roy has coached one NHL game and has already been fined $10,000.

Colorado Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy has been fined $10,000 for the incident at the end of Wednesday night's game against the Anaheim Ducks, according to Adrian Dater of the Denver Post on Thursday afternoon.

A scrum broke out at the conclusion of Wednesday night's game when both teams iced their fourth line. Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau had sent out his group first, followed by Roy. When the scrum pushed towards the Colorado bench, Roy began yelling at Anaheim players, which upset Boudreau.

This attracted Roy's attention to the opposing coach. While yelling at one another, Roy began pushing the stanchion between the benches and broke the structure.

Boudreau explained postgame that he was not bothered by Roy sending out his fourth line, but rather by his insistence on yelling at his players and the referees. Roy stated that he was upset by a hit from Ben Lovejoy on Nathan MacKinnon, which he believed was knee-on-knee.
