According to Ryan Parker of the Denver Post, Varlamov was arrested on second degree kidnapping and third degree assault of a person he knows. These incidents were alleged to have happened on Tuesday.
The Avalanche issued a brief statement shortly after the report surfaced.
"The Colorado Avalanche organization is aware of the allegations concerning Semyon Varlamov. At this time, and until the conclusion of this investigation, the Avalanche organization will have no further comment on this situation."
Varlamov, 25, was originally a first-round draft pick by the Washington Capitals in 2006 and spent three years with the team before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche in 2011. He's been the starting goaltender for the Avalanche ever since and has been one of the driving forces behind their surprising start this season.
In eight games this season he has posted a .945 save percentage and a 7-1-0 record.
