Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scores in return

The Nuge is back, and he sparked a third period rally for the Oilers.

Playing in his first game since last April 19, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his first goal of the season for the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night.

Nugent-Hopkins returned to the Oilers lineup after missing the first two games of the season recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and immediately made an impact, sparking a third period rally that saw the team score four goals in seven minutes to erase a 3-0 deficit.

He is not only coming off an injury-shortened season, but it was also a terribly unlucky season when it came to his production as he was held to just four goals on 78 shots in 40 games.  Provided he can stay healthy he should be a nice bounce back candidate in 2013-14.

Even with his poor luck last season the Oilers were still confident enough in his ability to sign him to a seven-year, $42 million contract extension.
