Tim Thomas injury: Panthers G day-to-day with groin strain

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Tim Thomas is day-to-day after sustaining a groin strain on Tuesday night.

Florida Panthers goaltender Tim Thomas sustained a groin injury and is considered day-to-day, the team announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Thomas incurred the injury against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night, when a wide shot deflected off the end boards and rebounded between his legs into the goal crease. Philadelphia forward Brayden Schenn scored off the rebound while Thomas awkwardly attempted to react to the shot. A few minutes later, a similar play occurred off a Sean Couturier shot, which resulted in a Braydon Coburn goal.

Following the second tally, Thomas left the game and was visibly frustrated. His final stat line ended with three saves on five shots:

Head coach Kevin Dineen stated that the Panthers could put Thomas on injured reserve as early as Wednesday night. The club recalled goalie Scott Clemmensen from their American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, earlier on Wednesday.
