Penguins held without a shot for first 18 minutes

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The Penguins didn't record their first shot on goal until there were two minutes remaining in the first period on Monday night.

The Pittsburgh Penguins offense has been going through a power outage recently, failing to score more than one goal in four of the past five games.

Before their game on Monday against the Anaheim Ducks coach Dan Bylsma decided to shuffle his lines a little bit. The Penguins opened Monday by placing Pascal Dupuis on the second line with Evgeni Malkin and James Neal, bumping Beau Bennett to the top line with Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz, and inserting the recently called-up Brian Gibbons on a newly formed third line with Jussi Jokinen and Brandon Sutter.

The result in the first period: Zero shots on goal through the first 18 minutes. It wasn't until Bennett slid an innocent backhander at Ducks goalie Viktor Fasth with two minutes to play that the Penguins recorded their first shot. And even that was debatable as to whether or not it was actually a shot.

At the other end of the ice, Anaheim managed to fire 12 shots at Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury who did his part to keep the Penguins in it.
