Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin was ejected for elbowing Steve Downie on Thursday night.

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin could be hearing from Brendan Shanahan this week for his elbow to the head of Philadelphia Flyers forward Steve Downie on Thursday night.

Emelin received a five-minute major and a game misconduct for this.

Downie was slow to get up after the hit and had to be helped off the ice by the team trainer. He did not take a shift for the remainder of the period.

He did eventually return to the game for the start of the third period.

Downie has already missed time this season for a concussion that he suffered in a fight in the Flyers' 7-0 loss to the Washington Capitals back in November.
