Oilers trade goalie Jason LaBarbera to Blackhawks for future considerations

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Spor

Chicago found a temporary solution to their goalie depth problems.

The Chicago Blackhawks filled an immediate need on Saturday, acquiring goaltender Jason LaBarbera from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for future considerations.

LaBarbera will report to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. In a related move, the Oilers have activated Ilya Bryzgalov from injured reserve.

Chicago is thin at goaltender with Corey Crawford out with a lower-body injury. With the news Friday that Crawford would miss the next three weeks, the Blackhawks decided LaBarbera was the goalie they needed to make up for the lack of depth at the position.

LaBarbera has appeared in seven games this season, posting a 1-3-0 record with a 3.27 goals against average and an .870 save percentage. Not fantastic numbers, but at the very least the Blackhawks are acquiring a veteran of 182 NHL games that can fill in should anything happen to Antti Raanta.

Edmonton will now apparently settle for the combination of Bryzgalov, Devan Dubnyk and Richard Bachman in net for the rest of the season.
