5 NHL questions: Penguins defense on the mend

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

A daily feature that asks the five biggest questions about today's NHL action. Will they be answered? (That doesn't count as one of the five questions.)

1. How will the Penguins defense corps perform?

Pittsburgh will be missing its top four defenders, as Kris Letang is the latest blue liner to go down with injury. That means the club will be without Brooks Orpik, Letang, Paul Martin and Rob Scuderi. Fortunately, Scuderi is nearing a return but that doesn't matter much in terms of Monday night's game against the Maple Leafs.

2. How will the Penguins perform without Evgeni Malkin?

Letang isn't the only loss as Malkin will also be unavailable for Monday's game. Malkin injured his leg over the weekend and is considered day-to-day. Malkin is third in the league in total points and leads the league in assists.

3. Will Blake Wheeler extend his goal streak?

Wheeler has registered goals in consecutive games. More impressively, he has two consecutive multi-goal games, as he has netted two tallies in each of his last two games.

4. How will Tyler Seguin follow up his four-point performance?

Seguin registered four points against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night when he scored two goals and two assists. This marked the second instance of Seguin scoring four points in the past week, and the fourth occurrence of four points or more this season.

5. How will Robin Lehner perform against the St. Louis Blues?

The Senators are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night. Goaltender Craig Anderson was pulled after allowing two goals in 4:18, while Lehner allowed three goals on 22 shots. Lehner has been confirmed as the starter for Monday night. Will he be up to the challenge?
