Eric Staal goes crazy

Eric Staal completely lost his mind after a late third-period penalty. Good news! He made up for it later.

This could have been costly for Eric Staal and the Carolina Hurricanes.

With less than four minutes to play in regulation and the game tied at four, the Hurricanes' captain was sent off for boarding Montreal's Travis Moen, a call that resulted in Staal going biblical on the officiating crew. Seriously, he just completely lost his mind on his way to the penalty box and picked up an extra two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Easy, tiger.

That's not really the ideal time to put your team in a shorthanded situation for four minutes, but fortunately for Staal and the Hurricanes their penalty killing unit was able to completely shut down Montreal's power play and hold on long enough to get the game to overtime. It was there that Staal made up for his penalties when he assisted on Alexander Semin's game-winning goal to give the Hurricanes a 5-4 win, snapping what had been a five-game losing streak.

Staal finished the game with a goal, two assists, and one incredible meltdown.

It was a pretty wild game to begin with, as the Hurricanes entered the third period in a 3-0 deficit before scoring four consecutive goals during an eight-minute stretch to take the lead. Montreal's P.K. Subban would later tie the game on the power play.
