The big Rangers defenseman was injured late in the third period when Devils forward Reid Boucher caught him in the chin with his shoulder.
Staal immediately skated off the ice and headed to the locker room, but not before letting out some anger.
Rangers coach Alain Vigneault declined to speculate on the severity of Staal's injury after the game, only saying that Staal "didn't feel quite right" after the incident, according to ESPN New York's Katie Strang. The Rangers have not provided an update on Staal's status for Sunday's game against the Capitals.
Staal's frustration is warranted. He missed 36 games in 2011-12 with a concussion and played only half of last season due to a scary eye injury after getting hit by a puck. Another lengthy absence is the last thing Staal or the Rangers need right now.
