Capitals vs. Flyers game preview: Someone has to win, right?

Eric Hartline-US PRESSWIRE

The Flyers and Capitals have just three wins between them so far this season, as two disappointing teams meet on Friday night in D.C.

Two teams struggling to live up to lofty expectations clash on Friday night as the Washington Capitals host the Philadelphia Flyers in a game that at least one of the two will manage to skate away with two points.

The Capitals, boasting what should be high-scoring and talented roster, have not adjusted well to new coach Adam Oates. Opening the season with four straight losses Washington now sits dead last in the Eastern Conference following a loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs that saw a 2-1 lead evaporate in the third period. The Capitals are averaging just 2.16 goals per game, as Alex Ovechkin has just two goals and three points on the season.

The Philadelphia Flyers don't have the excuse of their third head coach in two seasons and have now lost two straight games to drop to 2-5-0 on the season. Averaging just two goals per game the Flyers' offense has failed what has been a rather solid defensive effort overall. The Flyers penalty kill has struggled, however, going just 4-for-7 in losses to the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET with local coverage on CSN-Philly and CSN-DC, with Canadian coverage on RDS.
