Oilers vs. Blue Jackets: Jack Johnson is too slow on open net

Sometimes a big wind-up for a slapshot is necessary. Sometimes you need to put extra force on a shot to get it past the goalie. Sometimes it's the right move to stop a puck and commit to a heavy shot, rather than just flicking it forward as fast as you can.

This was not one of those times, Jack Johnson.

The Blue Jackets had a chance to tie the game in the middle of the second period. They had the Oilers scrambling and were on a power play. The Oilers collapsed down low on the kill, allowing defenseman Jack Johnson to drop all the way down to the face-off dot. He got a pass and was looking at a golden scoring opportunity with Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk down on the opposite side of the net. Unfortunately for the Blue Jackets, Johnson blew it with an unnecessary wind-up, and gave Dubnyk just enough time to slide over and make the save.

Next time, Jack, just flick it in!
