The Toronto Maple Leafs (7-5-0) will host the Philadelphia Flyers (5-6-1) on Monday night at Air Canada Centre.
It will mark the first of three meetings between the two teams this season.
The game will be the first time that defenseman Luke Schenn will play in Toronto since being traded to the Flyers this past offseason for forward James van Riemsdyk.
Originally chosen with the No. 5 overall selection in the 2008 NHL Draft by the Maple Leafs, Schenn was touted as a key piece in the future of the franchise. Largely considered an untouchable assest, Schenn's time in Toronto was tumultuous. Struggling to live up to the high expectations bestowed upon him, the defender was a healthy scratch at times and faced criticism for his performances.
The club ultimately determined that Schenn wasn't as untouchable as they originally made it seem.
This was similarly the case with van Riemsdyk, who was also a high draft pick (No. 2 overall in 2007) and seemingly didn't fit the role the Flyers organization had expected him to fill. Dangled as trade bait in rumored deals through a good portion of last season, the Flyers decided to move the big-bodied forward for Schenn in order to supplement a depleted defense corps.
Despite battling through an injury-riddled 2011-12 season, van Riemsdyk has started 2013 with seven goals in 12 games.
Monday night will mark the first game of a six-game road-trip for Philadelphia. The team managed to compile a 3-0-1 record this past week during a four-game home stand, which greatly improved their sluggish start to the season.
Toronto will be entering the contest on the back of a three-game winning streak. However, the team has struggled at home this season, compiling a 1-4-0 record at ACC.
Monday night's game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., ET and will be televised on RDS2, CSN-PH and SNET-O.
