Penguins vs. Senators: Milan Michalek a late scratch for Ottawa

The Sens forward took part in warmups but didn't hit the ice for the first period.

The Senators are already struggling to find consistency on offense this season, and tonight's news might not bode well for any hopes for improvement any time soon.

Forward Milan Michalek apparently suffered a "lower body injury" during warmups and was a late scratch. Instead, the Senators dressed seven defenseman as Patrick Wiercioch was given the start in his place.

Michalek is the Sens' third leading scorer with eight points in 13 games and is a critical player for an Ottawa squad that currently ranks 21st in the league with 2.54 goals per game and 17th with 33 total goals. The question now is whether the Senators can get some offense from their depth players tonight or whether Erik Karlsson and Kyle Turris will continue to be the only weapons. Keep in mind that Jason Spezza isn't expected to return from his injury for many weeks, so a long-term injury to Milan Michalek is bad news for Ottawa.
