Sharks vs. Blackhawks preview: Chicago looks to keep point streak alive

Jonathan Daniel

The Chicago Blackhawks (10-0-3) will host the San Jose Sharks (7-3-3) at the United Center on Friday night.

It will mark the second of three meetings between the teams this season.

When the clubs last met on Feb. 5, the circumstances were significantly different. Billed as a meeting of the top two teams in the Western Conference, the Blackhawks managed to best the Sharks by a final score of 5-3.

While the Blackhawks have continued to display that they are a formidable force in the Western Conference, the Sharks have struggled in the second month of the regular season. After rattling off a perfect 7-0-0 record in January, San Jose has yet to register a win in February (0-3-3).

Chicago has yet to lose in regulation this season and has a league-leading 10 victories this season.

Entering the night off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, the Blackhawks had previously won four consecutive games.

Blackhawks backup goaltender Ray Emery (3-0-0; .920 save percentage and 2.59 GAA) will be getting the start, while Antti Niemi (6-1-3; .935 save percentage and 1.74 GAA) will likely get the start for the Sharks.

Friday night's game is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on NHLN-US, CSN-California and CSN-Chicago.
